Seamless Studio Upgrades for Always-On Broadcast Environments
SBS engaged The AVIT Group to support the upgrade and recommissioning of key broadcast infrastructure across two of its flagship studios. The objective was to modernise Studio 1’s news production workflow with global-standard automation, and restore Studio 2 to full operational capacity for high-profile entertainment programming – all without interrupting critical broadcast output.
In Studio 1, we collaborated closely with Ross Video’s engineering teams in Canada and the US to deliver a seamless transition to a fully automated newsroom. Our team led local planning, integration, and commissioning, including the creation of a temporary control room to ensure uninterrupted on-air delivery during the upgrade. Key systems deployed included the Ross Ultrix FR5 with Carbonite production engine, OverDrive automation, and CamBot robotics- streamlining operations and future-proofing the studio’s production capabilities.
In Studio 2, The AVIT Group recommissioned the Ultrix Acuity routing and switching platform, used for SBS’s most prestigious content, from the FIFA World Cup and Eurovision to The Cook Up and Insight. We conducted thorough diagnostics and signal logging to bring the system back to full broadcast standard, integrating it with the Ross TSI-4000 tally system to ensure rock-solid reliability across live and pre-recorded formats.
The result is a resilient, high-performance production environment across both studios. SBS now benefits from enhanced workflow efficiency, increased technical reliability, and the confidence that their core studios are equipped to meet the demands of world-class content delivery.
